Back To The Nature - Sungai Gabai

Gabai Falls

Have you ever heard of Sungai Gabai, or also known as Gabai Falls? Sungai Gabai is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Selangor. It has several falls cascading from an impressive height of 100m to a series of pool at the foot of the falls. It is located in Hulu Langat. To reach there, you have to go to Hulu Langat firstly. Next, you'll just have to follow the road to Kampung Pangsun for around 7km until Batu 18 and turn right. Drive about another 6km, you shall a signboard to Sungai Gabai. When you reach there, you can try to look for car parks. A very reasonable fee of RM 1 will be collected from each person to enter to enjoy the magnificent view. Since it is very crowded during the weekends and public holidays, it is advisable to reach there early or else it is very difficult to find a good spot of parking at the roadside. You will block the flow of the traffic if you do not park your car properly. This is because the road is very tiny.

If you are living in Ampang or Cheras area, it is a very good place for you to spend your one day trip at there! During weekends or public holidays, you can see crowded people at there. Hence, during the last Monday which is a public holiday for Prophet Muhammad's Birthday, me and my friends went to there. Sungai Gabai is also one of the good spots for picnic and also barbecue. Let me remind you here, please be there early or else all the good spots will be taken! We were late, by the time we reached, it was really crowded.

Crowded people by the time we arrived

After you park the car, you can start your journey to the waterfalls. The car park is not that far from it. They say no pain no gain. It is so true, because before you could catch a glimpse of the magnificent waterfalls, you have to climb up to the staircases which is very steep! Therefore, please remember to take your meal before you go. Lots of stamina is required to reach. I skipped my breakfast so it was really hard. In addition, if you are late and there are no more good spots available, you will have to go further inside to find spots to put down your things. Whereas, there are no more steep staircases for you because there isn't any proper road any more! The path to get further inside is the time where you have to practice your jungle trekking skills.

Very steep staircases

Bunch of people having fun at the 'slide'

All your hard work will be paid off when you found a spot for you to start your fun and also the good view of nature. We as urban people are always busy with the hustling and bustling city life, busy working and studying, it is time to relax. Meanwhile, enjoy the fresh air of the nature because definitely you won't be able to do this in Kuala Lumpur. The water from waterfalls is very refreshing and cooling.

Since we are late, we straight away started the fire for barbecue for lunch.

Setting up

Starting the fire

While waiting, some of us can't stand the temptation of the water and hence jump off into the water.

Splashing water

Cool water under the hot weather

Not only the locals are here, we saw some of the foreigners too. When we reached there, there are two of them and then continue going into deeper than we were. I guess there is something more to be explored in there. Also, a small bunch of Korean foreigners that gave us their Kimchis on their way back.

We found this. It seems like it was a fireplace made by the previous people.

You have to be careful because there are many rocks and they are quite slippery. You will also have the chance to approach the real nature. We saw caterpillars, water spiders, toads and also fishes in the stream. Too bad that the fishes are too small and hard to catch, or else we could have 'ikan bakar' there.

Time to eat!

We were starved after contributed a lot of stamina in climbing and playing. Therefore, once the fire is ready, we were so busily eating.

After another few hours of playing, it was already late. So we started to pack our stuffs. Other than that, we did not forget to clean up our mess. We cleaned up our rubbish and bring it down with us as well in order to dispose it properly. As pollution is getting serious by days, we must started to give our effort to protect our environment. If we do not start learning to protect, another good spot to escape from the city like Sungai Gabai will disappear. There was this another good spot like Sungai Gabai that I used to go when I was small, but I heard that it is now closed down due to pollution of the water.

Fun time's over! Clean Up!

Although the way we came was hard, going down was much easier. However, we shouldn't be careless because of the slippery stones. On the way going down, we saw some irresponsible people did not clean up their rubbish after their meals. Rubbish scattered everywhere. This is very disappointed as some people out there still do not have any awareness of the crisis the environment is facing now. I believe everyone knows about the Mayans prophecy saying that some huge catastrophe will happen and lead to the end of the world. No one knows whether the prophecy will come true or not, however, if the public still unaware of the important of the nature, I believe that the happening of the  end of the world is just a matter of time.

Therefore, the younger generation now must be educated properly how to protect and love out environment. Schools and parents play an important role in educating them especially the parents. They are the role model for the youngsters. In addition, the government should also enhance the law enforcement such as practising heavier fine. Campaign about recycling should also be held by the authorities to increase the awareness of the public.

This is what you should do

Some unethical people left their trash behind, which is WRONG!!

I believe if everyone of us gives cooperation in saving our environment, then our nature can be preserved. Our next generation will be able to see what we see now.

Show love to mother earth
